College of Applied Sciences, Karthikappally, owes its existence to the Institute of HumanResources Development (IHRD) is an autonomous educational institution established by the Government of Kerala, in 2011.The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala. The College is involved in quality manpower development and training in the thrust areas of IT, Commerce, Management and emerging disciplines for the students of the central Travancore .The college also provides PGDCA, DDT&OA, DCA and CCLIS Courses conducted by the Institute of Human Resources Development.

The College of Applied Sciences was established as a result of the vision to provide quality education to the rural area. The College of Applied Sciences has successfully established and maintained the apt ambience for learning and the highest level of academic performance by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities in this institution, with its graduates being placed and working around the world.

About IHRD

Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) is an autonomous educational institution established by the Government of Kerala in 1987. The institute is registered under The Travancore – Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable society’s registrations Act 12 of 1955. The management of the institute is vested with a Governing Body composed of the Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Government of Kerala, as the Chairman and Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala as the Vice Chairman.

The Institute of Human Resources Development is dedicated to the scientific advancement, technological progress and economic growth of the country through human resources development. Based on the principle, "Think Globally and Act Locally" it endeavours to bring about the welfare of the nation. It endeavours to provide education and training of consistently high standards through innovative and versatile programmes suitable for the current and emerging needs of the community.

IHRD which started off with a few educational institutions in the late 80’s has now 93 institutions spread across Kerala which include 9 Engineering Colleges, 45 Colleges of Applied Science, 8 Polytechnic Colleges, 24 Technical Higher Secondary Schools, 2 Regional centers, 7 Study centers, 2 Model Finishing Schools and 2 Skill Development centers.
